APVMA Final Review: Impact on Winegrape Vineyards

The wine industry has ruled that vineyard use of paraquat, diquat, and paraquat/diquat combination products is no longer supported, effective 23 June 2026.

Key dates:

  • 23 June 2026 — decision effective; new product labels will no longer list vineyards as an approved use
  • 22 June 2028 — deadline to use up or dispose of existing stocks with pre-23 June 2026 labels

What’s still allowed (temporarily): Existing stocks with old labels can continue to be purchased and used in vineyards until 22 June 2028. New manufacture under old labels has ceased.

How to identify affected stock: New labels will carry “RV2026” next to the APVMA Approval Number — any product without this marking and listing vineyard use is subject to the phase-out.

Action required: Audit your chemical inventory now for any paraquat or diquat products (alone or combined) and plan to exhaust or dispose of them before June 2028.
